Fredrik Eklund’s marriage to Derek Kaplan is still going strong. The Million Dollar Listing New York and Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles real estate agent and his artist husband have been married to one another for over a decade, and still have so much love between them after many moves and two kids later in their happy blended family. (Derek is also a dad to an older son, Kai.)
Fredrik and Derek are the parents of their 8-year-old twins, Freddy and Milla, who love to celebrate them. Fredrik took to Instagram on Feb. 14, where he revealed that Freddy and Milla surprised Derek with a cake, in bed, on his birthday. In the video, the twins can be seen holding a plate with a cake sitting on top, walking sideways up the stairs towards the bedroom. Once they were in the room, they surprised Derek with his cake, while the family dog sniffed around them.Â
Fredrik then took to the caption of the post, where he opened up about this special birthday tradition and gave a look inside their family today. “Happy birthday Daddy!” he wrote in the caption of the post. “It’s a Swedish tradition to wake up the birthday boy or girl in bed with cake very early in the morning. The kids were so excited to light the candles, and Cashy wanted to sneak a piece of the chocolate too lol.”

This adorable look into their family comes on the heels of Fredrik’s emotional Instagram tribute to Derek, which he penned in March 2025, about Derek being his “person.” Although Fredrik’s Instagram feed is filled with updates about his career and family, he does occasionally post about Derek. As in March 2025, when he posted the sweetest throwback photo of him standing alongside his husband.
“I think this is the first official photo of us together. We met in Mykonos and I knocked on your shoulder. We spent the next three days together and I cried when you went back to London,” he wrote in the caption of the post. “We started dating long distance, and when we got married, we still couldn’t be fully together until it got legalized in the US that summer. Now, you turn the big 50 but you somehow still look 35 like 15 years ago. Twins, Kai, Cash, Minnie Mouse, and an entire life together traveling the entire world, your parents becoming my parents. You are my person as we say in Swedish.”

Fredrik Eklund pays tribute to his late mom, Jannike Wenke
Derek was also by Fredrik’s side when his mom, Jannike Wenke, passed away in 2025 after a “brave battle” with cancer. Fredrik took to Instagram on Dec. 16, where he penned a touching tribute to her, posting so many photos of her taken throughout the years.
“There are no words big enough to describe how deeply we loved her — so perhaps the photos can speak where the language fails,” he wrote. “When a mother dies, something inside of us dies, too. And yet, perhaps something else is born: the memories, the gratitude, and pain will never leave.”
