Calif. mom accused of killing newborn in homeless encampment charged with another infant’s death in 2015

VENTURA, Calif. (TCN) — A woman accused of killing her 1-day-old baby at a homeless encampment this year is now facing additional charges for another alleged killing.

In February, 30-year-old Marisol Flores was charged with murder after her newborn infant was pronounced dead at a homeless encampment and showed signs of blunt force trauma.

On March 10, the Ventura County Superior Court added one count of murder and one count of a child resulting in death in connection with the death of an infant in 2015, the Ventura County District Attorney announced

While looking into the Feb. 8 death, police reopened an investigation into the death of one of Flores’ children in November 2015. The baby was reportedly 25 days old when they died. That child’s cause of death has not been released, KTTV reports.

In the amended complaint, prosecutors allege Flores would be eligible for a life sentence without the possibility of parole given that she allegedly killed two children, according to the DA.

Flores’ attorney has expressed doubts of Flores’ competency to stand trial. She is scheduled to undergo an evaluation by a psychologist and will appear for a competency hearing on March 26, according to the DA.
