N.M. couple charged with child abuse after newborn suffered at least 29 fractures



LEA COUNTY, N.M. (TCN) – A couple has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged abuse of their 6-week-old daughter, who was found by hospital staff to have suffered from dozens of fractures. 

On March 21, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office announced that Tyler Rey Janousek and Trenaty Kaylyn Lewis, both 25, were arrested and booked into jail on charges related to their daughter’s injuries. Janousek was charged with three counts of first-degree child abuse and Lewis was charged with three counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of accessory to wit abandonment or abuse of a child. 

On March 11, the sheriff’s office was contacted by hospital staff regarding a 6-week-old baby girl who presented with several broken ribs. The child was transported to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas for treatment. An investigation began and it was determined that the baby’s parents were suspects. She had sustained at least 29 fractures in various stages of healing.
