BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (TCN) – A mother has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of her 10-month-old son.
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department announced that on March 26, deputies received a call reporting a stabbing. When they arrived at the residence along with EMS and the fire department, they found 10-month-old Enoch Chappell. He had suffered multiple stab wounds. Life-saving measures were attempted on scene, and he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Chappell’s mother, 34-year-old Ciara Frederick, was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the sheriff’s office. The Charlotte Observer reports that one of the assault charges alleges that Frederick chased a man down the driveway with a knife, according to court records the outlet obtained.
WLOS reports that Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller said, “It strikes us to the core. Let me just say that. When I say it strikes us to the core, a 10-month-old deceased and at the hands of the mother.”
