Police in Florida arrested Tiger Woods late Friday afternoon on suspicion of driving under the influence, following a rollover crash.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said officers arrived just after 2 p.m. at a collision about two and a half miles from the Jupiter Island Police Department.
FOX News Digital reported that Woods is suspected of traveling at a high speed when he crashed his vehicle with enough force to flip it onto its driver’s side. After the accident, he crawled out through the passenger door unhurt.
No other injuries were reported.
Woods was alone in his vehicle at the time of the accident. Budensiek said investigators at the scene noted clear indicators of impairment.
“DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment. They did several tests on him. Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests.”
Budensiek stated while a breathalyzer test confirmed Woods had no alcohol in his system, he refused to submit to a urine test.
“We really weren’t suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case, and that proved to be true at the jail. … But when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused.”
Woods was arrested and charged with DUI, with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, according to Brudnesiek.
On Friday evening, Woods posted bail and was released from the Martin County Jail.
This is Woods’ second non-alcohol-related DUI arrest. According to the Associated Press, police in Florida arrested Woods in 2017 after finding him in the driver’s seat, asleep with the engine running, in a traffic lane with damage to the vehicle.
The 2017 incident was attributed to a bad mix of prescription painkillers.
Woods was in another rollover crash in February 2021, where he traveled at a high speed and ran off a windy road in Los Angeles County. No charges were filed, but Woods sustained severe injuries resulting in three months of immobilization.
This accident comes at a sensitive time for Woods, who just made his competitive return at the TGL championship after a long hiatus due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, according to FOX.
