TUCSON, Ariz. (TCN) — A 32-year-old man has been arrested for first-degree murder and three counts of child abuse after police say he strangled his partner to death in front of their three young children.
On April 13, Martine Mayorquin allegedly killed Katlynne Roy, 28, KOLD reports.
A probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime alleges neighbors notified their property manager when they heard screaming and children’s cries coming from inside the residence. The property manager entered the home and found the children crying in the bathroom. The suspect was allegedly standing over Roy’s body. Neighbors had already dialed 911 and responding officers pronounced Roy dead at the scene.
In court on April 14, KOLD reports a major crimes official said, “The defendant admitted to strangling the victim twice in front of their 7-year-old, 5-year-old, and 3-year-old until she was no longer responsive.”
In an interview with authorities, Mayorquin allegedly said he put Roy in a chokehold for three minutes, took a break, and then resumed the chokehold for five minutes, Law & Crime reports. Mayorquin also alleged scratches on his chest and neck were from Roy fighting back.
Mayorquin is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 24.
