AUGUSTA, Ga. (TCN) —Â A man serving a sentence for a 2016 shooting has been charged with murder after his victim died nearly a decade later.
WRDW reports that in 2016, Marcus Tobias Jackson shot Warren Gordon. Gordon became paralyzed due to the incident and had been in a wheelchair ever since. Jackson was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The Augusta Press reports that Jackson’s sentence was due to be completed within approximately two years and he had had the possibility of early release due to good behavior, but more time was added to his sentence in 2023 when he was found with marijuana while behind bars.
Gordon died in March, and an autopsy found that his cause of death was infected ulcers, which he had developed due to complications he sustained from being shot. The Augusta Press reports that investigators obtained a murder warrant against Jackson and that more time will likely be added to his sentence.
