Shanquella Robinson Friend Issued An Arrest Warrant After Death On Vacation
On Thursday, Nov. 24, attorney general’s office for the state of Baja California announced they were investigating a case of femicide that occurred on Oct. 29 in San José del Cabo. The statement says officials believe the death was not an accident, but they did not name a suspect.
The FBI is also reportedly investigating.
According to WBTV-TV, Shanquella Robinson travelled to Mexico with her friends on Oct. 28. The next night, she reportedly didn’t feel well. Robinson’s friends reportedly called her parents and said they called a doctor and believed she had alcohol poisoning.
An autopsy report, however, said otherwise. The Charlotte Observer reports report lists her cause of death as “severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation.”
Daniel de la Rosa Anaya, a prosecutor for Baja California Sur, told ABC News the suspect is one of Robinson’s friends and described her as the “direct aggressor.”
He said in a statement, “Actually it wasn’t a quarrel, but instead a direct aggression. We are carrying out all the pertinent procedures such as the Interpol alert and the request for extradition to the United States of America. It’s about two Americans, the victim and the culprit.”
According to a report cited by the Charlotte Observer, Robinson was still alive when medical officials came to check on her, but it allegedly took hours before she was pronounced dead. She reportedly went into cardiac arrest before she died.
A doctor from the American Medical Center reportedly arrived after 3 p.m. on Oct. 29 and told Robinson’s friends she should be transported to a hospital. The friends allegedly said they wanted her to stay at their rental villa.
At 4:20 p.m., one of her friends called 911 for an ambulance, and the doctor began CPR at 4:49 p.m. because Robinson was having trouble breathing. Paramedics and police later arrived and continued with CPR as well as five adrenaline doses and six AED shocks.
Robinson was declared dead at 5:57 p.m., according to the Charlotte Observer.
A video went viral that allegedly shows Robinson getting beat up inside the villa where they were all staying, WSOC-TV reports. Although her friends reportedly said they believed she suffered from alcohol poisoning, Robinson’s death certificate does not list anything about alcohol.
Robinson’s mother, Sallamondra Robinson, reportedly said the people in the video are Shanquella’s friends who travelled with her to Mexico.
Sallamondra Robinson told WSOC, “It was never a fight. She didn’t fight. They attacked her.”
