Amid mounting red flags, The Valley‘s Brittany Cartwright realized that she and Brandon Hanson weren’t meant to go the distance when she unexpectedly received a shocking DM from her then-boyfriend’s ex-wife.

Having already gotten “the ick” from Brandon doing the “bare minimum” as she recovered from her “mommy makeover” surgery, Brittany opened up to Janet Caperna and Lala Kent during Season 3, Episode 11 about the final straws that ultimately led to their breakup.
“I told you we kinda got into it the other day and that we both were kind of like, we just don’t think we can do this anymore,” Brittany reminded the duo. “So, then I had a DM from his ex-wife. She told me her daughter, who’s four, told her that she hung out at another girl’s house and that Brandon had already been FaceTiming with another girl. Yeah. And I just, like, was, like, losing it. And then I was just like, honestly, like, this is too much.”

At Tom Schwartz’s James Bond-themed party later on, Brittany spilled more details on what happened after she received the messages from Brandon’s ex to a larger group of her castmates.
“I was already thinking that, like, the long distance wasn’t gonna work,” she told them, referring to the fact Brandon lives roughly 200 miles away in Paso Robles, Calif. “We didn’t talk for, like, a couple days ’cause we got into an argument. And his ex said he’s been already talking to someone. So I called him like three or four times… We had not talked, other than text, after our big fight.”

When Brandon “finally” answered his phone, Brittany officially ended their relationship, calling out all of the “unnecessary drama” between them.
“I was like, What the f–k is going on?'” she recounted to the group. “We started fighting. I was like, ‘This is not gonna work. I’m done. Goodbye. I don’t believe you. You’re not the person I thought you were.’ And that’s it.”

Earlier in The Valley‘s June 10 episode, Brittany further unpacked the conflict that erupted between her and Brandon amid her surgical recovery. According to Brittany, even though Brandon had taken off work “just to help” her out, he kept changing the plan that they’d come up with for which days he’d be with her.
“There are very few times in life where I say we have to make something about me, but if I’m coming out of a major surgery where I cannot even go to the bathroom by myself, then yeah, it should be about me,” Brittany explained to a producer. “You’re my boyfriend. You can take care of me for three days.”
As she put it to Janet and Lala before her and Brandon’s eventual split, “If something doesn’t change, then we’re not gonna be able to do this.” In a later scene, Brittany also revealed to the two that Brandon had asked her for money “many times,” but she never told them about it because she didn’t want to “embarrass” him.

“I gave him money a couple of times,” Brittany admitted. “He took off two weekends to come help me, and he asked me to give him money since he was taking off work to come help me. And I was like, ‘Sure, since you’re coming to help me, I don’t want your kids to suffer. Whatever.’ Stuff like that doesn’t really bother me. And also, I’m just a very giving person, and I think he took advantage of that.”
After previously accusing Brandon, who’d also dropped the ball in picking up her medication from the pharmacy in time, of using some of the money she gave him to buy her flowers, Brittany added on The Valley After Show, “I was just glad that he thought to, like, get me flowers, but I would’ve loved my pain pills.”
Lala, meanwhile, divulged, “Brittany didn’t get flowers when he asked her to be his girlfriend because production wouldn’t pay for the flowers,” and a producer revealed that Brandon had indeed asked them to foot the bill. Brittany’s response? “I didn’t know this ’til after, guys!”
