NEWINGTON, N.H. (TCN) — A man is facing charges after allegedly forcing a woman into marriage and harming her in what she described as a satanic ritual.
WMUR reports that on June 6, authorities arrived at an Olive Garden restaurant after a woman reported her daughter was being held against her will. She had tracked her daughter’s phone to the Olive Garden parking lot. When officers arrived, they made contact with the woman, whose name has not been released. She reportedly had cigarette burns on her legs.
WFAB reports the woman fled the restaurant and told authorities she wanted to file an emergency restraining order. Boston.com reports 47-year-old Daniel Ouellet allegedly told officers he and his wife were simply out for a meal and she was upset because her mother was forcing her to join a religious cult.
In an interview with investigators, the woman alleged Ouellet forced her to drive him while pointing a gun at her head; he said that they were being followed by a religious cult. WMUR reports she also alleged that he cut her wrist as part of a satanic ritual the following morning, and that several days prior, he had forced her to marry him. She alleged she was not allowed to use her phone and that Ouellet threatened to hurt family members if she left him.
Investigators later found a satanic bible in Ouellet’s car, per WMUR.
WMUR reports the woman was issued a protective order and Ouellet was held on preventive detention. His criminal record includes charges for domestic violence and driving while intoxicated. At his first court appearance on June 8, he denied the allegations.
Boston.com reports that police in Newington, New Hampshire, charged Ouellet with using a deadly weapon to prevent someone from reporting a crime. He is also facing charges in Kittery, Maine, and Lee, New Hampshire. WMUR reports that more charges are likely.
