SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (TCN) —Â A man is behind bars after he allegedly entered a home, assaulted the homeowner with a hammer, and refused to come out, leading to an hours-long standoff.
WNYT reports that on June 19, officers responded to a home for a disturbance. The homeowner was bleeding from his head and face, and he alleged that an acquaintance, Chance O. Barger, had assaulted him with a hammer and was still inside. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Barger remained in the home. Despite several attempts by police to get him to leave, he allegedly would not do so.Â
Due to possible danger because Barger allegedly refused to comply with law enforcement orders, a special team launched a drone to detect where Barger was inside the home, according to WNYT. Officers entered the home and took Barger into custody without incident after approximately 3 1/2 hours.
WNYT reports Barger was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated family offense, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Barger is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 7, per WNYT.
