DANBURY, Conn. (TCN) — A 28-year-old woman has been charged with murder in connection with the 2018 death of her newborn son, who was found in dumpster.
Dominique Harrison was arrested on June 18, Us Weekly reports.
She was charged with murder with special circumstances on June 22, according to WTIC. Prosecutors allege that shortly after giving birth in 2018, Harrison placed her newborn son in a dumpster in a remote area.
The investigation began shortly after the baby’s body was discovered, according to WTIC. Evidence led investigators to Harrison, who allegedly admitted to placing her son in the dumpster after they questioned her several times. According to prosecutors, Harrison allegedly admitted she placed her son in a remote area so no one could find and save him.
At the arraignment, Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Caitlin Harding said, “Your Honor, the case before you paints a picture of a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable,” WTIC reports.
Harrison allegedly made additional statements during her interviews that are leading to more investigations, per WTIC. Us Weekly reports authorities have not revealed what evidence led them to connect Harrison to the child or why it took eight years for an arrest.
The News-Times reports that the court sealed the arrest warrant affidavit.
According to WTIC, Harrison is behind bars on $2.5 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31. She has been placed on suicide watch while behind bars, per Us Weekly.
