PHILADELPHIA (TCN) —Â A 75-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a construction worker.
On July 8, police responded to a home after receiving a report that a man had fallen off a roof, according to KYW News Radio. First responders located construction worker Salis Hanrahan, 20. He had been shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators spoke to neighbors who said they heard a popping sound, and then saw the home’s owner, George Barr, leave to take his dog for a walk. Inside the home, authorities found a rifle with a bayonet and a contractor bill for $70,000, KYW reports. When Barr returned from walking his dog, he was arrested and taken into custody on charges of murder, possession of an instrument in a crime, and reckless endangerment.Â
According to KYW, Barr was previously convicted of assault in 1981. A neighbor told WPVI that Barr is a retired firefighter and a Vietnam War veteran.
Hanrahan, a native of England, was the father of a baby girl, according to WPVI. According to the outlet, the Department of Homeland Security alleges he was part of a group that scams homeowners with overpriced and low-quality construction or renovation projects.
Police have not released a motive in the fatal shooting of the construction worker, but KYW reports that money might have been a factor. WPVI reports Barr remains behind bars without bail.Â
The investigation is ongoing.
