ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 58-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for attempting to rape his girlfriend’s mother before killing her on her 93rd birthday in 2022.
On March 13, 2022, Javier Rosado Martinez killed Dolores Padilla Marrero at the St. Joseph Garden Senior Living Complex, WESH reports. Rosado Martinez was dating the victim’s daughter at the time. Right before she was killed, Padilla Marrero had been celebrating her 93rd birthday.
Family members became concerned when they did not hear from her the next day. When they arrived to check on her, they found her naked with a pillow covering her face. On the bed, family members found a distinctive necklace that belonged to Rosado Martinez. Her death was ruled a homicide caused by strangulation and blunt force trauma to the chest.
Rosado Martinez was arrested and charged in connection with her death and attempted sexual assault on March 16, 2022, after police viewed security footage that showed he was at the facility. He had previously lived at the facility with Padilla Marrero and her daughter but had been asked to move out in January 2022 due to substance abuse issues.
According to WFTV, prosecutors had sought the death penalty. Rosado Martinez was sentenced to life without parole on July 14 for the murder charge and also received a five-year sentence for attempted sexual battery. According to WESH, the sentences are to be served consecutively.
According to State Attorney Monique Worrell, “Ms. Padilla-Marrero was a woman who opened her home to someone she trusted — and he repaid that trust with unspeakable violence,” per WFTV.
