PALO ALTO, Calif. (TCN) —Â A 46-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail after police allegedly found he had locked himself in the bathroom of the home he burgled.Â
According to a news release from the Palo Alto Police Department, a couple called authorities at 2:36 a.m. on July 19 to report a burglary. About 90 minutes earlier, the couple’s security cameras had shown a person on their property. At 2 a.m., the suspect allegedly rang the front doorbell.Â
When the male homeowner went to investigate, he discovered someone had gone through their car. The suspect then allegedly entered the home and locked himself in the bathroom, according to police, prompting the female homeowner to call the authorities.Â
Police forced their way into the bathroom to detain the suspect, Oscar Dario Banegas. He allegedly initially provided police with a fake name and was booked into jail on suspicion of residential burglary, parole violation, methamphetamine possession, resisting arrest, and providing false information to police.Â
No one was injured during the incident, and nothing was reported stolen.
