A Wisconsin woman was accused of poisoning her ex-husband, allegedly by putting eye drops in his drinks.
Jessica Meis, 37, is being held at the Portage County Jail on $100,000 bond after being charged with aggravated battery with a domestic violence modifier, plus two counts of placing foreign objects in edibles. According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, Meis’ ex-husband contacted the Stevens Point Police Department on Monday after he suspected Meis tried to poison him by putting something in his drink.
Meis’ ex-husband told police he had been experiencing symptoms since 2021, including “being exhausted, dizzy, and sleeping for long periods and having headaches.” But many alleged incidents occurred around the time the couple finalized their divorce in June 2025. After the couple split, they continued to live in the same Stevens Point, Wisconsin, home until she found her own place.

According to the complaint, Meis’ ex-husband told police that he was hospitalized for health issues four times between July and September 2025, when Meis moved into her own home in Plover, Wisconsin. After that, the ex-husband told police it was not uncommon for Meis to be at his house because the former couple shared custody of their three children.
In January 2026, he said Meis was staying at his house because her heat was broken. The ex-husband reported having three “episodes” that month. His health issues flared up again in May 2026 and had “low blood pressure episodes rise in frequency” through July 19.
On one occasion, in July 2025, the ex-husband said he had an episode after having an energy drink that he left open in the refrigerator. He told police he thought Meis could have put something in the open can. Police said the ex-husband’s mother saved the can and submitted it to investigators after he made his report on Monday.
The ex-husband told police that after suspecting that Meis was poisoning him, he installed a camera in his kitchen on July 14. Police said they reviewed the video from July 18 and observed Meis removing something from her pocket and placing it on the kitchen island. Meis then unscrewed the object, described in the complaint as a “small container,” and emptied the contents into a black water bottle, according to the complaint. Police said she “purposely holds both items lower than the kitchen island so it is out of view” of two of her children. Meis then allegedly put the water bottle back where she first found it and put the smaller container back in her pocket.
In a video dated July 16, Meis was allegedly seen taking a bottle of eye drops out of her purse before taking a bottle of Propel water out of her ex-husband’s refrigerator. Police said while she was facing away and blocking what she was doing, they “suspect[ed] she is emptying the eye drop solution into the water bottle.” Police said that bottle of Propel ended up being consumed by someone else, who turned the bottle over as evidence.
Police went to Meis’ home on Tuesday to conduct an interview with her after reading Meis her rights. She agreed to answer questions and said she was aware of her ex-husband having low blood pressure. She also told police that she watched “real life or true life mystery or murder shows.”
When confronted with the video that allegedly captured her putting eye drops in her ex-husband’s water bottle, Meis allegedly said she was putting “saline solution or salt” in the water as a blood pressure remedy. Police said she eventually admitted that she was putting Visine eye drops in her ex-husband’s drinks. After initially saying she only did it a couple of times, she allegedly told police she had done it “many times.”
According to the complaint, Meis told police that she was putting eye drops in her ex-husband’s drinks to make him “sick” so “he would let [her] take care of him” and “he would need her.” She allegedly admitted to putting Visine in his “Monster brand energy drinks, Propel water drinks, Bubbler drinks, and most likely his old fashioned mix.” Meis also said she tried to put Visine in her ex-husband’s CPAP machine, “but she didn’t think it worked.”
When asked if she was concerned about her children consuming the Visine-tainted drinks, Meis said “they don’t drink these things.” Police said Meis did not show any remorse for her alleged actions.
Meis was arrested on Tuesday and remains in custody. She is due back in court on July 27.
