“I’ve been through a lot in my life, and this is not the worst thing that’s happened,” he confessed to producers during Below Deck Med’s July 27 episode. “Knowing when to leave is something that I’m getting better at practicing. By me leaving the boat, I’m choosing the harder route, and I think Captain Sandy [Yawn] appreciates that.”

Luke first got on bosun Nathan Gallagher’s bad side when lead deckhand Joe Bradley revealed to Nathan in the July 13 episode that Luke ejaculated onto Nathan’s bedsheets. Adding fuel to the fire, not only did Luke not tell Nathan this himself, he also let Nathan sleep on the dirty sheets for three days.

Around the same time, Luke also found himself in hot water when he began a boatmance triangle with stew Gen Lillie and chef Joy Lefaucheur.

“The last couple of days have been particularly tough for me,” Luke admitted to Sandy as he told her his intention to quit during the July 27 episode. “I feel like me being on the team right now is causing a bit of disruption.”

He added, “I just don’t want any more tension. It’s breaking the flow. I think the best thing for me is to leave.”

Sandy applauded Luke’s decision to quit before his relationships with his crew worsened, and admitted she’d been considering firing him and even inquired about a new deckhand.

“I respect Luke’s decision. It actually helps everything that I was going through mentally trying to figure out how to handle this,” she confessed to producers. “I think it’s the right choice, and I’m grateful he’s doing this.”

At the post-charter tip meeting, Luke told his crew he was leaving M/Y Akira One. “It’s been such an honor to work with such a genuinely high performing team. I wish you guys the best, but I think the right thing to do is for me to leave,” he shared.

Considering the dirty sheets drama, Nathan admitted to producers of Luke’s choice to leave, “I can’t say that I’m upset.”

Nathan informed Joe of Luke’s departure, explaining, “He thinks he’s bringing too much tension to the crew, so he’s leaving.”

Joe, who has been involved in love triangles himself during both Below Deck Med Season 9 and Below Deck Med Season 10, pointed to that as Luke’s downfall.

“I really like Luke. We can work well together. But I’ve told you before, I’ll tell you again: love triangles never f—king work. Ever,” Joe informed producers. “Such a shame that it fell apart in such an astronomical way.”

Luke insisted during the July 27 episode that he struggled with leaving Joy behind on the yacht.

“The toughest part of the decision to leave is not seeing Joy every morning,” he confessed to producers. “I know it’s such a short time that I’ve known Joy, but she is so important to me. And I want to see her again, but I’m quite scared she doesn’t want anything to do with me.”

When Luke informed Joy he was quitting, she argued while it may be what’s best for the crew, “It’s not the best thing for me.”

Joy admitted that she regretted “being so hard” on Luke after his hookup with Gen, and revealed that she’d been willing to give him another chance. “I was hoping we could fix things during the season. I was not expecting him to leave,” she confessed to producers.

She continued, “Even everything that happened, I’ve liked this guy since the beginning. I’m going to miss him, even though he screwed up a lot.”

Luke also revealed that he was leaving the door open for a future relationship with Joy. “Our paths will cross again,” he declared to her as he left.
