A Kentucky woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to kidnap an 8-year-old girl.
Charra Lewis, 42, was charged with kidnapping a minor and burglary on Saturday and booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. According to court documents obtained by local Fox affiliate WDRB, a family in a Portland, Kentucky, neighborhood flagged down officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department after they said Lewis allegedly tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl.
Police spoke to the girl, who told officers that Lewis approached her and asked if she needed help finding her mother.

According to court documents, the girl said Lewis offered her an item, but that item was not specified. When the girl tried to run back to her house, Lewis allegedly chased her and attempted to restrain her. Police said the girl made it inside her house and locked the door behind her.
Police said Lewis then tried to break the door down with a metal garden pole, which damaged a window screen.
When officers caught up with Lewis, she reportedly told them that she was trying to “save” the girl. Lewis told police that she did not believe the girl’s mother was really her mother. Lewis was then taken into custody.
Lewis was scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on Monday, but the hearing was canceled. Local NBC affiliate WAVE reported that Lewis was not cooperating with staff at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. A new court date has not yet been set, and Lewis remains in custody. Her bond information was not available.
