A Tennessee man was sentenced to death for slaying his mother and two siblings in their home and trying to kill his stepfather, who only survived by escaping through a window.
The jury on Tuesday in Maury County opted for the ultimate punishment against Nathanial Pipkin in the deaths of his 44-year-old mother Traci McNeely, 20-year-old brother Carson Pipkin and 11-year-old half-sister Kailee Warren. Jurors deliberated about five hours before reaching their decision, according to District Attorney Brent Cooper from the 22nd Judicial District.
“The room was silent as the foreperson read the same verdict five times: ‘The sentence shall be death.’ Pipkin showed no emotion,” Cooper wrote. “In fact, he had instructed his lawyers not to fight against the death penalty.”
Nathanial Pipkin was convicted last week of three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, along with other charges.

Nathanial Pipkin, then 22, used a firearm to kill his mom and two siblings shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2021, at their home in the 2100 block of Double Branch Road in Columbia, which is about 40 miles southwest of Nashville. The defendant’s stepfather jumped out of a window and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
Cops later arrested Nathanial Pipkin more than 100 miles from the scene after a traffic stop. He was wearing body armor when cops took him into custody.
During his perp walk, he told a local news reporter peppering him with questions about the murders that he acted in “self-defense.”
“There are no winners in cases like this,” Cooper wrote. “The death penalty won’t bring back the lost loved ones. However, some cases cry out for a form of justice which exceeds all others. When I went to the scene October 1, 2021, and saw the carnage. A mother, brother, and 11-year-old girl, all senselessly slaughtered, I knew this was such a case.”
Kailee, a middle school student, loved being outdoors whether on the beach or in the mountains.
“She was always at peace when she was drawing, listening to music and playing games,” her obituary said. “She loved her friends and family deeply and will be missed by all who knew her.”
Carson Pipkin’s obituary characterized him as the “family jokester.”
“Carson also had a love for all animals, if he ever had a show on his own it would’ve been called ‘Carson’s Critters.’ Throughout his life he had a love for the outdoors and most recently he had a passion for restoring old cars,” the obituary said.
