A family on a cruise with a child in Florida was attacked inside its own cabin by a couple who were drinking and “arguing loudly” after the family asked the couple to “quiet down,” according to police.
Brooklyn Hicks and her boyfriend, Gannon Jacox, “apparently didn’t like the request” from the family and “decided to go confront them,” according to a Facebook post sent out Sunday by Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.
The involved parties were all on a cruise ship docked at Port Canaveral on Saturday evening, per police. The family was with a 9-year-old child.
“Jacox … decides it’s a great idea to walk over with his cell phone and start recording the incident as he tells Hicks to beat them up!” Ivey said. “The suspects then pushed their way into the victims[‘] room, which included a 9 year old child that was inside the room!”

A fight ensued, and Jacox ended up “hitting all three people (including the child)” while Hicks was “just swinging, hoping one would land,” according to Ivey.
“Jacox got a pretty gross injury to his eye, that was either caused by one of the victims or friendly fire from the haymakers his girlfriend was throwing!” Ivey said. “Well, regardless of how insane the entire incident was, thankfully none of the victims were seriously injured in this ridiculous escapade!”
Ivey alleged that Jacox and Hicks were “taking advantage of some adult beverages” before the fight broke out.
“So what’s the moral of the story … if you can’t hold your liquor, then you definitely shouldn’t be out in public causing a scene like this and injuring random people including a child!” Ivey blasted. “And if that memo is not clear enough for you then you might want to stay your butt out of Brevard County!”
Jacox and Hicks are both from Ohio and were arrested on Saturday night. Jacox is facing charges of felony burglary with assault or battery, felony child abuse and a misdemeanor charge of battery. Hicks is charged with felony burglary with assault or battery and misdemeanor battery.
“Gannon Jacox did commit the offense of Battery in that he did strike [the victims] without permission with a closed fist,” an arrest affidavit says. “Gannon Jacox did commit the offense of burglary with battery in that he did force his way through the cruise ship cabin door and into the stateroom belonging to the victims without permission. While inside, Gannon Jacox did repeatedly strike all three victims with closed fists causing bruising and swelling. Gannon Jacox did commit the offense of child abuse in that he struck [the child] in the face.”
The arrest affidavit for Hicks says she also struck one of the victims “several times after she was instructed to do so” by Jacox.
“Brooklyn Hicks did commit the offense of burglary in she entered through the door of the cruise ship cabin belonging to the victims without invitation while her boyfriend was actively battering the victims inside,” the affidavit says.
Ivey wrote on Facebook that he hopes the couple enjoys “their extended stay at their unplanned destination with close quarter sleeping arrangements, communal showers, no drink packages and of course no excursions!”
