A Tennessee woman is behind bars for stabbing her mother to death in her mother’s home, law enforcement in the Volunteer State says.

Tiffany Lafay Green Barber, 43, stands accused of one count each of first-degree murder and tampering with or fabricating evidence in connection with the death of 74-year-old Jannie Green, according to the Memphis Police Department.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at a residence on Bethel Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood of Memphis.

That day, officers responded to a 911 call about a disturbance at the house and found a macabre scene, according to a police report obtained by Memphis-based CBS affiliate WREG.

Inside, Green was sitting in a chair suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. Paramedics performed lifesaving efforts but to no avail — the septuagenarian was pronounced dead at the scene.

As officers and paramedics continued to investigate the crime scene, the defendant walked into a police station with blood on her clothing, according to law enforcement.

Barber allegedly told investigators she had stabbed someone in a home on the same street and same block where her mother lived, police said. The defendant was then taken into custody.

During a custodial interview, the defendant told detectives she stabbed her mother, left the house, then disposed of the murder weapon in an alleyway behind Bethel Avenue, police said.

Police did not relay a motive for the fatal stabbing or specify the alleged murder weapon used in the crime as of this writing.

The defendant is known by several aliases, according to Shelby County Sheriff’s Office records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Barber is currently detained in the Shelby County Jail with no bond. She is next slated to appear in court on Aug. 25.
