A Florida man is out on bond after police said he attacked a teenage boy on a golf course for playing too slow.

Rhett Drummond, 50, posted $500 cash bond after being arrested for child abuse on Aug. 22. According to an affidavit obtained by local NBC affiliate WFLA, Drummond was playing golf at the Lansbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida, that morning when he allegedly began arguing with an unnamed 15-year-old boy over the teenager’s slow play.

Police said the two calmed down after their initial altercation, during which they were both “being disrespectful toward each other,” and went to different parts of the course. Then Drummond allegedly got into his golf cart and drove into the cart being driven by the teenager.

Police who responded to the scene said the teen told them he tried to drive away from Drummond but was unsuccessful. According to the affidavit, Drummond allegedly pulled the teen off the golf cart by his shirt and threw him to the ground. While the teen was down, Drummond allegedly struck the boy in the head and face.

WFLA reported that police observed red marks on the teen’s neck and that he had a bloody nose.

The teenager’s family members told police they wanted to press charges against Drummond, who reportedly admitted his role in the alleged physical attack.
