A woman in Georgia is unlikely to see the outside of prison walls for using a rental car to smash into the mother of her ex-boyfriend’s new lover in front of the victim’s family.
Talisha Moore-Real, 35, was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison plus 10 years, with the possibility of parole, the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office announced.
She was found guilty last month of malice murder and felony murder in the death of 53-year-old LaQuita Baker, as well as three counts of aggravated assault and first-degree cruelty to children in connection with the incident.
DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said Moore-Real had been accused of “intentionally hitting and killing a woman with a rental car after an argument with the victim’s daughter.”

On Sept. 29, 2025, Moore-Real, Baker, and at least two of Baker’s family members were at the Gulf American Inns on Flat Shoals Road in Decatur, Georgia, which is located just outside Atlanta. Moore-Real and Baker’s daughter were involved in “an argument over a man,” according to the DA’s office.
Baker’s daughter “was dating a man whom Moore-Real had dated previously,” investigators learned. At some point as the women argued, Moore-Real “rammed one of Baker’s relatives’ cars and then drove off.”
The defendant apparently wasn’t done.
“Moore-Real then circled back and started arguing with her ex-boyfriend, who was also at the motel,” according to authorities. “She drove off again,” but as she did, the man reportedly “fired shots at the car, which Moore-Real called 911 to report.”
About six minutes later, Moore-Real returned to the parking lot of the motel for a third time “and drove toward Baker, her daughter, and another of Baker’s relatives, who was just 17 years old.” Though Baker tried to get out of the way, the DA’s office said “Moore-Real aimed directly for her, hitting Baker and running her over before driving away from the scene.”
Someone called 911 and said Baker had been hit and run over by a car at the motel. Officers with the DeKalb County Police Department arrived to find paramedics caring for Baker.
Authorities brought her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The DA’s office said surveillance cameras from the motel and a neighboring gas station “caught the collision on tape.” Furthermore, a witness had apparently taken a photo of the license plate of the car used in the ramming, “which police were able to track to a rental car business” at an Atlanta airport.
Moore-Real had returned the rental, “and the company turned it over to detectives.” Police arrested the woman, and during an interview, she “told investigators that she did not see anyone in her way and did not mean to hit anyone, but video evidence contradicted that claim.”
