A new deckhand named Massimiliano “Massi” Scarcia has officially come aboard for Below Deck Mediterranean Season 11, replacing Max Salvador, who abruptly departed amid a dangerous situation involving his father. During Season 11, Episode 14 of Below Deck Med, Massi shared details on his life and extensive experience in the yachting industry.
“If you couldn’t tell, I’m from Italy,” the 26-year-old newbie said, while introducing himself in a confessional. “I don’t have any blood in my veins. I’ve just got espresso, cigarettes, and stress.”
Adding that he’s usually “the guy in charge,” Below Deck Med‘s new deckhand continued, “I’ve been in yachting for 10 years. I’ve been on small boats, big boats. I’ve been a deckhand; I’ve been a bosun a few times.”
In fact, Massi was already serving as a bosun on a different boat just one day before joining Captain Sandy Yawn’s crew. He said that he even planned to return to that same vessel after wrapping his time on M/Y Akira One. As he met his new fellow yachties, Chef Joy Lefaucheur immediately caught Massi’s eye.

“She is beautiful,” he remarked to a producer. “I’m not usually nervous, but whew, somebody light me a cigarette, because you told me I cannot light my own.”

Upon arrival, Massi presented Captain Sandy with his two-page CV. In a producer interview, she said, “He has loads of experience. He’s been a captain, so I’m hoping that he can just come on deck, pick up like he’s always worked here, and just help us get through the rest of the charter season.”
Aesha Scott’s first impression of Massi? “He seems lovely!” the chief stew gushed to Kayley Smith.

Even prior to Max coming aboard, Gen Lillie had been hoping that he could be a potential new boatmance for her, but the Italian native turned out to not be a romantic match. “Not what I was hoping for. Shame,” Gen said in a confessional, before also telling Kat Johnston that Massi is “not [her] type at all.”
As Massi quickly got acclimated to his deckhand duties, Nathan Gallagher was impressed that he seemed to be “on it already.” Referencing the previous day’s bad weather, the bosun quipped, “There was a storm, and you came, and now it’s calm. … You bring some happiness.”
Nathan’s praise, meanwhile, did not sit well with lead deckhand Joe Bradley. “Nathan, if you crawl up Massi’s ass any further, you’re gonna get stuck,” Joe vented in a confessional. “I have no clue what the dynamic on board is gonna be like for the rest of the season.”
