FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 58-year-old man is facing burglary and assault and battery charges after he allegedly used power tools to break through a shared wall into his duplex neighbor’s home.
On Sept. 6, deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a duplex in Palm Coast, Florida, ClickOrlando reports. A resident alleged that the man who shares their wall, Charles Bowden, had used power tools to break through the drywall. WOFL identified the victims as Natasha Crockett and her mother.
Crockett had recorded the alleged incident and shared the recording with deputies. On the recording, Bowden allegedly is heard calling the victim names and saying, “I’m going to be crawling through the walls and figure out ways to make your life hell.”
Deputies located a softball-sized hole in the wall inside the duplex, according to the sheriff’s office. They then tried to contact Bowden at his home, but he allegedly refused to come outside for about 90 minutes and allegedly threw a bag out of an upstairs window toward deputies. Once he came outside, he was taken into custody.
Deputies found a string trimmer and hammer inside his home, both with drywall residue on them. Bowden was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and burglary with assault or battery and is being held without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
WOFL reports Flagler County Rick Staly called the incident “one of the most bizarre cases I’ve seen in my career.”
Crockett said she has already hired a contractor to reinforce the wall. She told WOFL, “I’ve put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this property, and I’m not going to just leave because they’re terrorizing me. … I’m not going to do it.”
Staly said, “Talk about a neighbor from hell. … Nobody should be made to feel threatened while in the safety of their home, and I am thankful our deputies arrived quickly and this incident didn’t escalate further than a hole in the wall. Now this guy is sitting in the Green Roof Inn surrounded by walls he won’t be able to break through.”
