An Oregon father will spend over three decades behind bars for fatally stabbing his 9-year-old son with a spear last fall.
In August, Levi Higgins-Green, 38, pleaded guilty to a litany of crimes including one count of murder in the second degree, one count of strangulation — constituting domestic violence, two counts of criminal mischief, and three various counts of assault, according to a press release issued by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
This week, the defendant was sentenced to a combined minimum sentence of 30 years and eight months in prison by 15th Judicial District Judge Martin Stone. The defendant will be eligible for parole after serving the minimum sentence, according to Beaver State law.

The underlying incident occurred in September 2025, at a residence off Cape Arago Highway in Charleston — a sparsely populated, unincorporated bayside community in Coos County.
Responding deputies were told the boy’s sister “had accidentally stabbed him during play with a spear,” the sheriff’s office said.
As it turned out, however, the boy was stabbed by his father.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene of the crime and paramedics performed lifesaving efforts. The child was rushed to Bay Area Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A weeklong investigation resulted in a search warrant being executed at the residence in October 2025, the sheriff’s office announced at the time. Inside, detectives obtained evidence the father had actually killed the son. Law enforcement did not offer a motive for the slaying.
Higgins-Green was initially charged with a lone count of second-degree murder. Additional charges soon followed.
“Also uncovered during the investigation were instances of domestic violence involving the other adults and children who lived in the home which occurred over years,” the latest press release reads. “It should be noted that names have been omitted at the specific request of the surviving family.”
