Ari was set to star in the play opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, who was set to play George.

The production was planned for London’s Barbican Centre next summer, but the show will no longer move forward following the departure of both stars.

The 33-year-old star announced in August that she would step back from public-facing work after completing her Eternal Sunshine tour, citing ongoing public scrutiny.

Her decision came as she prepared to return to the stage following her acclaimed run in Wicked.

Ariana’s exit was initially announced alongside a statement from the production team expressing its “complete understanding and support” and saying the show would continue with new casting.

Both Ari and Jonathan had been attached to the project since casting was announced in January, with the pair expected to reunite onstage after starring together in Wicked.

The cancellation marks another major change for Ariana as she prepares to take a break from the spotlight now that her tour has wrapped.
