A man in Tennessee hurt a boy while trying to make a “citizen’s arrest” despite the child apparently leaving the area when the man asked him to, authorities say.
Stanley Trezevant, 70, has been charged with felony child abuse and misdemeanor assault, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime. He was arrested and booked into the Shelby County Jail, though he is no longer listed in custody.

On Sept. 12, the defendant was at his home on Heron Oaks Cove in Memphis, Tennessee. Google Maps imagery shows that just behind his property is Norfleet Turner Lake, which borders multiple private properties in the city.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, a boy — whose age is unclear — was fishing with his 13-year-old friend. Trezevant allegedly approached them and told them “to leave the lake.”
The minors apparently did so, though the suspect “followed.”
Trezevant reportedly “grabbed” the boy “by his left arm and threw him on the ground, placing his knee on the back” of the victim. He then grabbed the boy’s hands “and put them behind his back as if he was arresting him,” per authorities.
The boy’s mother was contacted, and she said she took her son to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement was also called to the hospital, where officers say they took photos of bruises to the boy’s arm and leg.
The following day, Trezevant called officers to his home, the court document states. He allegedly conceded that he approached the boy and his friend while they “were fishing on his property” and “asked them to leave.”
The boys “eventually left his property,” but the defendant “followed them to an adjacent area of the lake,” Trezevant went on. He then said he told them he was “going to perform a citizen’s arrest” and grabbed the boy by the arm “and placed him on the ground.”
Trezevant reportedly “held the juvenile’s arm behind his back and put his knee on his bottom.” The boy apologized and left.
The boy and his friend later “positively identified” Trezevant “as the person who assaulted” the minor, authorities said.
The defendant was arrested. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3.
