COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (TCN) — A 62-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder, evidence tampering, and tampering with a deceased human body after allegedly reporting her husband’s March death to the police several months later.
On Sept. 19, Sheldon “Shelley” Wilson and her daughter went to a police station to report that Wilson’s husband was dead, KPTV reports. She allegedly said, “There’s no words for what you’re fixing to find out.”
When police arrived at Wilson’s home, they were met by a strong odor, according to KPTV. They allegedly found totes containing garbage bags in the garage. One allegedly held human remains and the other was sealed with duct tape.
During her interview with police, Wilson claimed she might have hurt her husband in the past while she was drinking but does not remember. She claimed she drank four shots on her husband’s birthday in March and woke up the next day to find him unresponsive. She allegedly claimed she dismembered him a few months later. When asked if she killed him, she allegedly said, “I’m scared I might have.”
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KRDO, Wilson allegedly told her daughter, who lives next door, that the victim had gone out of state to visit family members.
KPTV reports Wilson allegedly admitted she has been collecting her husband’s Social Security checks since his death. According to court records obtained by WKRC, police had allegedly responded to 18 calls from Wilson’s home since 2024 and many family members alleged Wilson abused her husband.
Wilson was charged with second-degree murder, evidence tampering, and tampering with a deceased human body, KRDO reports. According to the arrest affidavit, Wilson allegedly said, “Can I just plead guilty? How does that work?”
The victim’s name has not been released.
