A Wisconsin man is behind bars after police said he fatally shot another man after an argument about text messages.
Wilson Jackson, 34, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide, recklessly endangering safety, and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the shooting death of 41-year-old Bryan Schuller. According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, Milwaukee Police Department officers responded to a home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the night of Sept. 7 after receiving a report about a shooting. When they arrived, they found Schuller dead of gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
Police learned that Jackson was the alleged shooter after a woman, identified in the complaint as Jackson’s ex-girlfriend, called 911.

While at the scene, police spoke to Jackson’s ex-girlfriend, who said they had broken up about a month earlier. At that time, she said, Jackson moved out of the house, and Schuller and another man, identified as M.D.W. and Jackson’s half brother, were living with her. On the day of the shooting, Jackson allegedly came back to cut down a pear tree that had fallen against the ex-girlfriend’s house, and along with Schuller and M.D.W., was drinking alcohol.
According to the complaint, Jackson became intoxicated and left the home at some point for about an hour, during which time the remaining people in the house ordered food from McDonald’s.
Jackson returned around 9 p.m. and entered his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom, where he reportedly saw text messages on her phone that had been exchanged between her and M.D.W. Jackson became “upset,” accusing his ex-girlfriend of having sex with M.D.W., and allegedly took out a handgun, pointed it at his ex-girlfriend, and fired two or three shots, police say.
According to the complaint, M.D.W. said he had left his own handgun on a table in the home. He told police that when he saw Jackson with it, he took it away. M.D.W. also told police that Jackson apparently had another handgun, a black Taurus G2c pistol, which he allegedly fired in the direction of his ex-girlfriend and half brother. M.D.W. told police that he believed Jackson was only trying to “spook” them, not injure them. Neither person was hit by any bullets.
M.D.W. then began fighting Jackson, and the two ended up in M.D.W.’s bedroom. Jackson later allegedly went into Schuller’s bedroom, where Schuller was on his bed eating his chicken nuggets from McDonald’s, and said, “You knew about this going on?” Jackson’s ex-girlfriend told police that after Schuller denied knowing anything, she heard “another two or three gunshots.” Jackson then left the home, and M.D.W. tended to Schuller’s gunshot wounds while Jackson’s ex-girlfriend called 911.
Police wrote in the complaint that Jackson was out on bond in connection with a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, having been convicted of burglary in 2010. When Jackson posted his $5,000 bond in June, he agreed to the conditions that he not possess any dangerous weapons or firearms.
Jackson was arrested on Saturday and is currently in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail, where he is being held on $1 million cash bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 1.
