A Nevada man confessed to killing his parents during a 911 call, telling a dispatcher he no longer wanted to live before gunfire erupted and the line went silent, according to police.

“I don”t want to live no more,” Abdelhafiz Abdelgader, 40, told the dispatcher, according to 911 audio obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“That’s why I kill my family,” Abdelgader reportedly said. “Because they cannot — they lose my brother and now they will lose me too.”

Abdelgader, who later died by suicide, shot and killed his parents, Ibrahim Jihar, 69, and Jimea Mahmoud, 64, at their apartment near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to police.

“At approximately 10 a.m., LVMPD dispatch received a 911 call from a male caller stating that he had just shot his parents and then while the call was going on, dispatch heard one more shot and then the line goes silent,” a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department official said at a Sept. 16 press conference.

According to the Review-Journal, Abdelgader was on the phone with 911 for about nine minutes. The dispatcher reportedly spent more than four and a half minutes trying to convince him to put his handgun away.

Abdelgader spoke to the 911 dispatcher about his brother’s death and said people were giving him a hard time, per the Review-Journal. He also described pain in his back and shoulders.

“My body is broken now,” Abdelgader told the dispatcher.

About four minutes after the gunshot, officers can be heard on the recording forcing their way into the apartment before it ends. When officers entered the apartment, they found Jihar and Mahmoud dead. Abdelgader was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During the 911 call, Abdelgader said he wanted to leave money behind to cover his parents’ funeral expenses and offered to donate his body, according to the Review-Journal. He reportedly asked that a phone number be left for his sister, who was in Africa, and said he did not want her to see photographs of him.

“She’s the last one,” Abdelgader said.

A GoFundMe for the family describes Jihar and Mahmoud as “tragically killed by their son … who took his own life after murdering his parents.” It is seeking funds to help cover the “burial expenses for all three family members,” according to its description.

“I was close friends with all three family members through the small but tight-knit Eritrean Islamic community here in Las Vegas and am personally devastated by their loss,” the organizer says in the description.
