Group C: Poland, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico

1) Poland

Poland was held by Mexico in their opening game of the group, with Robert Lewandowski missing a penalty that night.

Yet the Barcelona star proceeded to make amends against Saudi Arabia, helping his side to a 2-0 victory. They’re in pole position to top the group, something few foresaw at the start of the tournament.

2) Argentina

Argentina had gone into the World Cup as one of the favourites to win, but they’ve looked vulnerable at the tournament so far.

They lost to Saudi Arabia, a result that stunned the world, before then beating Mexico. Lionel Messi scored in both matches – and he’ll be key if they’re to go all the way this winter.

3) Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia was given no chance against Argentina and, yet, produced a performance worthy of picking up all three points.

They weren’t at their best against Poland, though, and now face a crunch clash with Mexico on Wednesday evening.

4) Mexico

All good things come to an end eventually.

Mexico have made it through to the knockout stages of the World Cup every year since 1990. That looks set to end on Wednesday, though, with elimination almost certainly on the cards.

Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia

1) France

Kylian Mbappe has had his critics but the France international is in majestic form for his country, scoring three goals and providing one assist so far.

The reigning champions miss key men such as Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante and Presnel Kimpembe but still have enough quality to defend their crown.

2) Australia

Australia lost their opening game against France but did put up a fight, going 1-0 up before shipping four goals in return.

Win on Thursday and they’ll join Didier Deschamps’ side in the next round, with the Aussies set to lock horns with Denmark.

3) Denmark

Denmark had entered the competition as a dark horse to win the World Cup, especially given the talent in their squad.

But while they pushed France all the way, they’ve underwhelmed so far. Their game with Australia certainly has plenty riding on it.

4) Tunisia

Tunisia isn’t expected to cause an upset when they face France.

They’re yet to score in the competition and have looked devoid of imagination up top. Therefore, elimination is expected.
