Olivia Rodrigo reveals Chappell Roan told her to start dating girls: “This is crazy”

Los Angeles, California – Olivia Rodrigo has revealed the surprising dating advice fellow pop star Chappell Roan gave her after some rough heartbreaks.

Olivia Rodrigo (r.) dished that Chappell Roan suggested she start dating girls after the pop star revealed the "crazy" things men have done in relationships with her.

The pop stars sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to discuss their new collaboration, a remix of Olivia’s song expectations that dropped on Friday.

“I love making things a little gay,” Chappell teased of her new verse.

The 28-year-old adds a new line in the remix that recounts being ghosted by a girl after a good date – “Classic LA behavior,” as Chappell describes it.

Though the Pink Pony Club artist, who is a lesbian, has evidently had her own troubles in dating, she was stunned by some of the dating stories Olivia has shared with her.

“I have a vivid memory of being in the studio with you, Chappell, and we were trying to write the second verse, and I was telling you all of the crazy stuff that boys have done to me,” Olivia recalled.

“And you’re like, ‘Oh my god, you need to start dating girls. This is crazy.'”

On a more serious note, Chappell gave the GUTS singer some major praise for featuring an LGBTQ+ artist on the track and being open to shaking up the lyrics to spotlight a female love interest.

“It’s just cool to have queerness – I don’t know if everyone would be down to have a fully queer verse on their song,” she said. “It says a lot about your support for queerness, but also girl pop star vibes… it feels very feminist to me.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the pair discussed Olivia’s all-female Daisy Chain Fields music festival, where Chappell took the stage alongside artists like Doechii, Stevie Nicks, and Mitski.

“It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my whole life, and I’m not even just saying this because she’s on the call, but having Chappell be there and perform with 100% of the profits going to charity, it was really heartening,” Olivia gushed.

For fans who didn’t get a chance to attend the California festival, the Grammy winner confirmed that planning is already underway for next year’s iteration!
