A man in Oklahoma is accused of driving drunk the wrong way down a highway’s off-ramp and smashing head-on into another driver, killing him.

Angelo Lacirignola, 43, has been charged with second-degree murder, according to Tulsa County court records reviewed by Law&Crime. The victim was identified as 65-year-old Fredie Hunter, local CBS affiliate KOTV reported.

On Sept. 5, Hunter was driving down an off-ramp on I-244 in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Lacirignola allegedly drove toward him — going the wrong way on the ramp — and hit Hunter head-on.

A GoFundMe set up for the victim said he “suffered a broken back, a traumatic brain injury with brain damage, and a long list of other serious injuries.” Authorities responded to the scene and rushed Hunter to a hospital, where he reportedly stayed in the ICU for 25 days until he died.

Lacirignola was also injured and brought to a hospital. He was later booked into jail.

The defendant was driving a Corvette owned by someone else, according to regional Fox affiliate KTUL, citing Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Lacirignola was at a Tulsa casino for a “boys night” before the crash, according to the owner of the Corvette.

Investigators apparently spoke with someone else who was with the defendant that night, who said they went to a bar, played pool and “drank a lot.” When law enforcement caught up with the defendant after the crash, he allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.22, nearly three times the legal limit.

Hunter’s family is left remembering their loved one.

“I just pray he didn’t see it coming,” his daughter, Kodye Geeding, told KOTV. “He was a great dad, he was a great friend, he was even a better G-Pa … My 10-year-old and him were so close. I don’t know if anyone in the world is getting hit harder than her.”

Lacirignola has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 18.
