Calif. man gets 100 years in prison for fatally shooting his parents, calling 911 to confess

FRESNO, Calif. (TCN) — A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 100 years to life in state prison for fatally shooting his parents after an argument.

According to the Fresno Police Department, Julian McElhaney, then 22, called 911 on April 10, 2022, and told dispatchers he had shot his parents. When officers responded, they located him in the front yard and found his parents, 55-year-old William McElhaney and 64-year-old Sylvia McElhaney, dead inside the home. Julian McElhaney was booked into jail on two counts of murder.

According to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, the fatal shootings occurred following an argument at the family’s home and both of the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Following a Sept. 17 plea agreement, McElhaney was sentenced to 100 years to life in prison on Oct. 16, according to the DA. KFSN reports that as part of his plea agreement, he waived his right to appeal.

At the sentencing, a nephew of the victims told McElhaney, “The ripple effects of what you did will forever live in the rest of our lives.”
