WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (TCN) — A man has been charged with multiple counts after an investigation found he allegedly installed a video camera in the women’s dressing room of the TJ Maxx store he managed.
According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the TJ Maxx on Feb. 28 after a customer reported finding a video camera in a dressing room.
Rockford News First reports the customer allegedly saw a camera lens in a ceiling tile. According to the outlet, when a female manager was asked to respond to the dressing room, Jeffrey Wallin allegedly also responded and took the camera down himself.
Wallin was identified as a suspect by investigators. Rockford News First reports that when they viewed surveillance footage from inside the store, they saw that Wallin allegedly went in and out of the women’s dressing room area and also allegedly brushed himself off after becoming dusty from examining ceiling tiles. When asked about this, he claimed he was looking for tags that had been taken off clothing items.
On March 4, Wallin was charged with unauthorized video recording and obstructing justice/destruction of evidence, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the investigation, the sheriff’s office asked people to come forward if they had any additional information or if they had been a victim. Several more alleged victims came forward, and on Oct. 14, Wallin was charged with five counts of unauthorized video recording with victim under 18 years of age, four counts of unauthorized video recording and live video transmission, obstructing justice/destroy evidence, and burglary. He was booked into jail on the new charges.
