NASHVILLE, Tenn. (TCN) —Â A 38-year-old man is facing charges of aggravated assault, harassment, and theft of property after police allege he attacked his ex-girlfriend with a hammer an hour after they assisted her in issuing an order of protection against him.
According to a press release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, officers responded to the victim’s home early on Oct. 18 after she reported that her boyfriend, Ross Peterson, had threatened her via text message and arrived at her home after an argument. The victim, identified by other outlets including WZTV as Bailey Perger, went with the officers, who helped her obtain an order of protection and a harassment warrant before driving her back home.
According to Perger’s brother-in-law, Perger briefly dated Peterson before breaking up with him, WTVF reports.
About an hour later, officers were called to Perger’s residence again, where they found her unresponsive in the yard, suffering from injuries to her face and head, according to police. Officers learned that shortly after she had arrived home, Peterson allegedly returned and vandalized her car. When she went outside to confront him, he allegedly attacked her with a hammer and police believe he took her phone as well. Police issued arrest warrants for aggravated assault and theft.
According to Perger’s father, Jeremy Perger, Perger has undergone facial reconstruction surgery, WZTV reports.
At the time of the alleged attack, Peterson was on probation for methamphetamine possession, police said, and there was not enough time to serve Peterson with the order of protection before Perger was found allegedly beaten, WZTV reports.
Peterson was arrested in Arkansas on Oct. 21, according to WZTV, and will be extradited to Nashville, Tennessee, to face charges. According to WTVF, he allegedly posted on social media that the allegations against him are untrue.Â
