Elderly man allegedly tried to suffocate 92-year-old wife with plastic bag at senior living home

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (TCN) — A 92-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attempting to suffocate his wife with a plastic bag.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident at a senior living home.

WHAS reports Bert Morris was allegedly recorded on video putting a plastic bag over his wife’s face and then pinching her nose.

According to police, staff intervened and called the authorities. Morris was arrested and charged with attempted murder and first-degree strangulation, according to police. The victim was transported to the hospital. Law & Crime reports that as of Oct. 29, the victim remained unconscious.

In an interview with detectives, Morris allegedly said that his wife “needed to die,” per WHAS.

According to police, a second person was arrested in connection with the alleged Oct. 28 incident. A caretaker at the home, 42-year-old Terrence Gabie, allegedly recorded the incident for 71 seconds. A citation obtained by WLTX reads that he “failed to provide aide [sic] or assistance to the victim at this time, knowing the victim was in danger.” A nurse reportedly separated the victim from Morris.

The investigation is active. KMBC reports Morris’ arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 29.
