A 21-year-old woman in Florida is accused of threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump after she allegedly posted on social media that she was going to “shoot him with my glock” ahead of his rally in Daytona Beach.
Allison Albro was taken into custody Friday and charged with one count of making written threats to kill or do bodily injury and one count of using a two-way communication device to commit a felony, records show.
According to a news release from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Albro made the alleged threat in a Thursday, Oct. 29, Instagram post. The post allegedly included a photo of Albro and this caption:
Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my glock! wish me luck guys!!
Trump is scheduled to hold a midterm campaign rally on Oct. 30 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
Sheriff’s detectives and federal agents questioned Albro, who allegedly confessed to posting the threat but claimed she was joking and quickly deleted it.
“The defendant admitted to posting the threat,” prosecutors wrote in a filing seeking to have Albro remain in jail. “The defendant stated that she took the threat down after warning from her mother. The defendant stated that although she does not like President Trump, the threat was a ‘joke.’ She advised that she does not have a gun.”
In the filing, prosecutors argued Albro was a threat to the community who “should be held without bond pending trial.”
In a Friday morning Facebook post, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said his office was “not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president,” adding that Albro was “learning that the hard way.”
“She posted this last night and got a visit from the VSO Domestic Security Unit and the U.S. Secret Service,” Chitwood wrote. “She said she was joking with this post, she doesn’t have access to a Glock or any other weapon, and she would never hurt anyone. Today she’s sitting in jail.”
The sheriff said he “would strongly advise anyone else thinking of posting a ‘joke’ along these lines to think twice.”
Albro is being held in the Volusia County Jail on a $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance Friday afternoon.
