Leg 7 of The Amazing Race Season 39 brought the remaining eight teams to Sri Lanka, where they met up with host Phil Keoghan for another twist. After Doug Matter and Dylan Matter finished last week’s non-elimination leg in last place, they also faced a penalty for this leg.
The November 4 episode included a Detour, Roadblock, and Route Info Task. It was a physically grueling day in the Sri Lankan heat. Scroll down for a full recap of the episode and to find out who was eliminated after arriving last at the Pit Stop.
Who got U-Turned?
Doug and Dylan were automatically U-Turned as their penalty for finishing Leg 6 last. All eight teams then voted for two more teams to get U-Turned, which means they have to complete both parts of the Detour instead of just one.
Erin Taylor/Javi Vintimilla voted for Michelle Patterson/Matt Patterson and Ali Krieger/Joanna Lohman, Ali/Joanna voted for Michelle/Matt and Daisha Wilks/Dalton Hamby, as did Conner Wilson/Garrett McGuire, Anuar Tager/Andrea Tager Ballesca, and Ann-Marie Tejcek/Riley Tejcek. Meanwhile, Daisha/Dalton went with Michelle/Matt and Anuar/Andrea, and so did Doug/Dylan. Finally, Michelle/Matt voted for Daisha/Dalton and Anuar/Andrea.
Michelle and Matt received six votes, while Daisha and Dalton received five, so they were both Double U-Turned.
What was the Detour in Episode 7?
The detour was “Dry Out or Sell Out.” For the Dry Out task, teams had to take buckets of gutted fish, rinse them in the ocean, and lay them out to dry on coconut fiber mats, using every square inch of space available. For Sell Out, the teams had to pick up fish and sell enough to make 5,000 rupee at a local auction market.
All of the teams selected Dry Out, while the three U-Turned teams had to do both tasks.

What was the Roadblock in Episode 7?
After completing the Detour, teams had to take a bus to Mada Park in Colombo. Ali and Joanna got on the first bus alone, while Andrea/Anuar, Ann-Marie/Riley, and Erin/Javi got on the second bus and agreed to work together. Conner/Garrett followed on the next bus.
The three U-Turned teams were last to the bus depot. Daisha/Dalton and Matt/Michelle got on a bus before Doug/Dylan arrived, but the grandfather/grandson duo ended up on an express bus and reached the Roadblock first.
At the Roadblock, one person from each team had to load and deliver a pile of 30 boxes to a nearby address with a handcart. Navigating to the address was not easy, as the streets were jammed with traffic and people.
By the time Matt/Michelle and Daisha/Dalton arrived, all of the other teams had completed the Roadblock, while Doug was out in the field working on it. Dylan decided not to tell his opponents where the clue box was, hoping to increase the lead, but Doug struggled with navigation and also dropped his boxes at one point, so in the end, they were the last team to leave the Roadblock.
What was the Route Info Task in Episode 7?
Luckily, they still had a chance to catch up at the Route Info Task, which was to play a game of tuk-tuk polo. One team member had to drive a tuk-tuk, while the other had to hit a ball between two posts in under 60 seconds while players in opposing tuk-tuks tried to stop them.
It took Joanna/Ali eight attempts, but since they had such a big lead, they were still the first to finish. Although Matt/Michelle were the sixth team to arrive, they finished the task in one attempt, jumping ahead of many of the other teams.
By the time Doug and Dylan arrived, Daisha and Dalton were the only team left at the Route Info Task. Doug and Dylan were able to fit in one attempt before Daisha and Dalton completed the task and headed for the Pit Stop.
Who was eliminated in Episode 7?
Although Doug and Dylan were able to score a goal just as Daisha and Dalton were leaving, it wasn’t enough, and they were the last team to the Pit Stop. This time, their luck was out, and they were eliminated.
The other teams finished the leg in the following order: Ali/Joanna, Anuar/Andrea, Matt/Michelle, Conner/Garrett, Ann-Marie-Riley, Erin/Javi, and Daisha/Dalton.
