Florida teen allegedly tried to kidnap, rape woman who was out on a walk

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — A 17-year-old boy has been taken into custody after police allege he attempted to kidnap and sexually assault a woman who was out walking.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Department, a woman was on a walk on Nov. 4 at about 5:30 p.m. when deputies allege Elijah V. McCarrell approached her from behind, knocked her down, and pulled her shirt down as she attempted to fight him off. She then chased him while yelling for help.

Deputies tracked down the suspect with the help of a K-9 unit, according to the sheriff’s office. He was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping, attempted sexual battery, and resisting arrest without violence.

In an update, Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the victim flagged down a passing car and told them to call 911. She was also able to provide a description of the suspect. Deputies and a K-9 located the suspect after finding an e-bike he had allegedly abandoned in the woods. During his apprehension, McCarrell was reportedly bitten by the K-9 and subsequently received medical treatment before being booked.
