Elon Musk gets roasted for Cybertruck flop: “Nothing more than the result of a drug-fueled fever dream”

Austin, Texas – Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Friday that the end of the Cybertruck might be near, and the billionaire is getting roasted for what some are calling the failure of Musk’s “drug-fueled fever dream.”

Musk claims the decision to ramp down production of Cybertrucks at Gigafactory Texas is because Tesla plans to ramp up production of the self-driving Cybercab, but a slew of social media users beg to differ.

Hours after Musk made the announcement, which came at 1:30 AM, user @MrTimeAttack replied, “[Cybertrucks] will go down as one of the worst automotive products in history, no doubt about it.”

But the X user didn’t stop there: “Cybertruck was nothing more than the result of a drug-fueled fever dream of Elon from playing CyberPunk 2077,” they wrote. “And as a narcissist, he’ll never accept responsibility for deciding to manufacture such a crap product. He’ll spin this every possible way he can.”

X user @BenMcCombe dropped some numbers in Musk’s replies, claiming that only 70,000 Cybertrucks were sold over three years, and after spending $2 billion on research and development, only $100 million was made in gross profits from sales, with a “net project loss of $1.9 billion.” He sarcastically called it “genius.”

The numbers they cited aren’t entirely wrong. According to data from Kelley Blue Book, Tesla has only sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in the US over the last year. In 2024, the company sold 38,965 Cybertrucks. When production of the electric truck started in 2023, Musk had expected annual sales to hit 250,000 units per year.

Musk also said the company spent nearly $2 billion on research and development, per Quartz.

X user @brianbotkiller won’t be losing sleep over the winding down of Cybertruck production, telling Musk in his replies, “Lol your s****y n*zi wagon is going out of production? DARN.”

But not all the responses were negative. Some X users were saddened by the news, with X user @Boochao saying, “Please no, cybertruck is the most iconic car on the road.”

X user @TheEVuniverse echoed these sentiments, replying to Musk, “The sad part about this is that pretty much every Cybertruck owner I know is raving about the truck.”

Musk did not say for sure if “winding down production of the Cybertruck” means that Tesla will no longer make Cybertrucks at all after mid-2027, or if they’ll simply make fewer.
