Backdraft actor Billy Baldwin and Wilson Phillips band member Chynna Phillips are hashing out the issues in their three-decade marriage for the world to see on their new YouTube channel.
For starters, the spouses are living near one another but in separate houses. “I never imagined Billy and I would be in the situation we’re currently in,” Phillips wrote on Instagram on Saturday as she promoted their “Holding On” YouTube channel. “We’re living separately, but adjacent. It’s super confusing and yes… complicated.”
And a recent Instagram promo for the channel shows a supercut of the couple bickering and discussing each other’s actions and reactions.
In that montage, for example, Baldwin and Phillips accuse each other of not being able to admit being wrong.
Baldwin also says that his communication style “causes [Phillips] to have a nervous breakdown.”
“You railroad, where it’s like you just steamroll,” Phillips says.
“And you control and manipulate,” the Sliver actor responds.
At another point, Phillips says, “Where in the Bible does it say that I have to live under the same roof 24/7 with my husband?”
And Baldwin reveals, “She said I want to spend my life with you, but I want to spend it adjacent.”
The couple’s “Holding On” channel currently has 18 videos with titles like “Chynna Phillips Ambushes Billy Baldwin and He’s Not Happy,” “We Stopped Speaking in Bangkok,” and “Billy Calls It a Born-Again Marriage.”
In their November 7 video, “My Love Language Is You Talking Less,” Baldwin and Phillips discussed their efforts to repair their relationship.
“We went to therapy years ago, and [our therapist] called it ‘the one thing,’” Baldwin said. “He’s like, ‘How are you not being fed? … What are you not getting in a relationship? … I want one thing.’ And he goes, ‘You give Chynna what she needs; you give Billy what he’s asking for. You don’t even have to be particularly good at it. You just have to try.’”
He continued: “It’s so simple, yet it’s pretty difficult. It’s pretty challenging. It’s pretty elusive to do that consistently. Look, when you’re madly in love with each other, and you’ve been together for 18 months, 2, 3, years, 5 years, different story. When you’re together 17, 20, 30 years, it becomes more challenging.”
Baldwin and Phillips married in 1995 and welcomed daughter Jameson in 2000, son Vance in 2001, and daughter Brooke in 2004, according to People. Phillips previously opened up about her and Baldwin’s unconventional living arrangements in a 2024 YouTube video, the singer telling fans that she and Baldwin were alternating their stays in their Southern California residences and having date nights in between.
