Cody Buyas Shot Dead By Ex-Girlfriend’s Family For Stalking Her
Investigators learned that 36-year-old Cody Buyas was allegedly stalking his ex-girlfriend and went to her home. Her family reported learned that he was at her residence and “confronted him.”
On Monday night, KATU spoke to Dr. Kathie Mathis, a domestic violence expert, who said stalking happens more often than people think “because stalking is one of those crimes where law enforcement has a hard time doing anything, because it’s one person’s word against another person’s word.”
A person who would stalk somebody may appear normal on the outside, but “they’re not normal at all,” she said. “When that person tries to leave them, their whole mindset is, if I can’t have you, nobody can. And don’t you try to test me.”
And she said even though physically the ex-girlfriend may be fine, “emotionally, psychologically, probably none of them are fine. There might be sleepless nights, nightmares, night terrors.”
Mathis said if you or someone you know is being stalked, there are ways you can protect yourself and heal.
