The 52-year-old Zulu, whose real name is Ahmed Obafemi, surrendered on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Fulton County Jail, according to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department.
He was booked and bonded out the same day after being charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during certain crimes, and simple battery, police said.
In a statement released on Saturday, Zulu’s attorney, Gabe Banks, claimed that his client “lawfully discharged his pistol in self-defense” after being attacked that night by four people at his place of business and “had every right to protect himself.”

Banks stated that Music Producer Ahmed Obafemi aka Mr. Zulu was continuously stomped, punched, and kicked by the gang while he was on the ground and helpless. “Mr. Zulu was attacked and jumped from behind by a gang of at least four (4) individuals (unfortunately including the decedent) and was compelled to defend himself,” Banks said.
His attorney said Zulu, who is still recovering from being shot in the back, was licensed to carry the weapon and fully cooperated with police.
