Early Life of Steve Mackey
South Yorkshire’s Sheffield is where Mackey was born. Along with Richard Hawley, a friend from his formative years, he attended Hucklow First and Middle Schools.
Later, they would perform as Pulp members together. Before continuing his education at Richmond College of Further Education, he attended Hinde House Comprehensive in Sheffield for his primary education.
Before joining Pulp, he played bass for Trolley Dog Shag, a Sheffield band that appeared with Pulp on a Dolebusters compilation CD in 1987.
He relocated to London in 1988 to pursue his interest in filmmaking, and he earned his MA in Film from the Royal College of Art there in 1992.
He played on the Fire Records album Separations after joining Pulp in 1989. While the band experienced popularity in the 1990s, he continued to compose, record, and tour with them.
Later albums include We Love Life, His ‘n Hers, Different Class, This Is Hardcore, and Intro – The Gift Recordings.
