Pep Guardiola has cut communication with the Premier League in the wake of Manchester City’s unprecedented number of charges for alleged breaches of financial rules.

The City boss, who faces a Newcastle side accused of persistently ‘annoying’ time-wasting by Erik ten Hag last week, claimed that his side are unfairly treated by referees.

Guardiola was incensed by a yellow card issued to Ederson by Anthony Taylor for wasting time in the 36th minute of the recent victory at Arsenal, perplexed that teams are not penalised for similar at the Etihad Stadium.

‘How many thousand million games do teams come here and waste time with the goalkeepers?’ Guardiola said. ‘Twenty seconds every time at a goal kick. Absolutely nothing happens.

‘And after we go there [to Arsenal], we want to be active to play and we get a yellow card. What they do they can do, whatever they want.’

Asked if he has spoken to the Premier League over what he perceives as double standards, Guardiola replied: ‘I don’t talk with the Premier League, we are accused by them. No referees, no Premier League, no care.

‘Now we can’t talk about the Premier League or whatever – we are busy defending with our lawyers our defence.’

Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp have both been outspoken about Newcastle’s gamesmanship before Manchester United’s Ten Hag followed up before the Carabao Cup final.

Guardiola sarcastically suggested if either side were to be reprimanded today, then it will be his own as they look to keep touch with leaders Arsenal.

‘It depends on the referee but I’m pretty sure the yellow will be for Ederson,’ he added. ‘How many times do I complain about referees or make an appointment? The game is done when it’s done.

‘I don’t even know before the game who the referee is that’s going to whistle. I know when I see their face, I know who they are, but I don’t talk with them before or after.’
