Chelsea boss Graham Potter CAN’T WATCH as Kai Havertz steps up to re-take penalty which proved the winner in their Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund, after German’s initial spot-kick hit the post
Chelsea boss Graham Potter could not bring himself to watch Kai Havertz’s penalty on Tuesday, as the forward put the Blues 2-1 up on aggregate in their vital win over Borussia Dortmund.
The German international his the post with his initial penalty, but was given another chance after a Dortmund player encroached on the box.
Havertz slotted his second attempt home coolly, but his boss did not seem overly confident as he held his head in his hands and stared at the ground while the shot was taken.
It came after Raheem Sterling opened the scoring in the first half following several big chances that just wouldn’t fall for the hosts.
Havertz had hit the post, Ben Chilwell hit a volley well wide, and Kalidou Koulibaly could not get the ball out his feet after the ball fell for him from close range.Â
They held on to the 2-0 lead on the day, sending them through with a 2-1 aggregate victory, and will now advance to the UCL quarter finals.
Potter’s stress is perhaps understandable given the importance of his side’s result on Tuesday.
While he was under slightly less pressure following Chelsea’s win over Leeds at the weekend, there were still many who felt the Blues boss needed a win against Dortmund to keep his job.Â
