The husband of a Mississippi woman missing since Tuesday night has been arrested for murder, even as investigators search the Big Black River for her body.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, 36-year-old Ebony Owens was last seen Tuesday night and reported missing when she didn’t show up for work on Wednesday. Investigators found her burned out car Wednesday morning, with the license plate removed and ditched nearby.
During a Thursday afternoon news conference, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said deputies looking for Michael Owens, 36, for questioning in his wife’s disappearance, but they said he was not considered a suspect at that time.
Later in the afternoon, Jones announced that Owens had been located, questioned, and charged with murder and that his wife died from at least one gunshot wound.
Hinds County deputies, along with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office are now searching the Big Black River on Old Highway 80 — not far from where Owens’ burnt car was found — for her body.
