A Deliberate Act: Two Officers Lured In By Fake Domestic Violence Call, Ambushed And Shot Dead At Redstone Hill
According to The New York Times, the deceased officers have been identified as Dustin DeMonte, 35, and Alex Hamzy, 34. The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Nicholas Brutcher. A third officer, identified as Alec Iurato, 26, was also shot and is currently at Saint Francis Hospital.
The incident took place at a Bristol house off Redstone Hill at about 10:30 p.m. Brutcher was fatally shot on the spot, and his brother Nathan was also injured.
The cops were sent to a domestic disturbance, which may have been a deception and a “planned act to entice” the officers to the home, according to a statement from the Connecticut State Police.
Brutcher was standing outside of the residence when police arrived, the State Police said. He then started shooting at the officers, killing DeMonte at the scene. Hamzy was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Iurato was shot and is currently recovering after surgery.
Additionally, Nathan Brutcher was sent to a nearby hospital for medical attention. At this time, it’s unclear if his brother or the officers shot him, and his health is unknown.
In a statement to the media, Chief State’s Attorney Patrick Griffin said, “I join with New Britain State’s Attorney Christian M. Watson and the entire Division of Criminal Justice in expressing our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Bristol Police Sgt. Dustin Demonte and Officer Alex Hamzy were tragically killed in the line of duty on Wednesday night.
“We are praying and hopeful that Officer Alec Iurato is able to fully recover from injuries he suffered in the tragedy.”
